I'm surprised our dumbfuck of a specie still hasn't killed itself yet.

The video is inconsistent because that part actually had side effects. Be glad science is now lead by impotent, fearful minorities, like young adults, asians and women, who will never have the rage and insanity of white men, either from the US or USSR, trying to bring glory to their homeland in a cold war by destroying the environment with guns and explosives. Good thing North Korea is the last place to be run by those kinds of people:

This is such a load of bollocks.

5: Drilling a hole that deep is futile due to the extreme amounts of pressure and heat. We don't have any materials or ways of building a hole that could sustain this. Even if such a hole did get made, I very much doubt a lot would happen, unless the hole was significantly big enough, in which case it's even less likely to get built in the first place.

4: Fusion isn't that easy, let alone getting it to be self-sustaining. The chances of "inducing" a self-sustaining fusion reaction through a chaotic energy dump is so small it might as well not be possible at all.

3: Oh god, the LHC black hole thing, don't even get me started on this.

2: People are constantly freaking the fuck out about what possible doom solar storms could cause, but so far not much has happened, even during the couple of "super emergency" times when the magnetic field was weak during an eruption. It could be quite harmful, sure, but I'm not convinced of its supposed destructiveness.

1: Of course, no list is complete without aliens. Statistics make alien life existing in the universe extremely likely, but us contacting them very unlikely. Meeting them is imo. completely out of the question.

#4 is the only experiment on the list worth mentioning.
Not coincidentally, its the oldest, and happened at a time where mathematical modeling was done on pencil and paper.
It's (very remotely) possible they wouldn't have been able to model the effects of a nuclear detonation well enough to envision all possible outcomes. But their gut feeling (aside from a few butterflies) was that the math was solid- and it was.

    #2 See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_storm_of_1859
The next time one of these hits, we get recked.
But that's just the Sun playing with us. Human-caused events just don't have the powah. Not even strategically deployed human events.

#1 The greatest risk of awakening Cthulhu isn't from SETI, its from radio/tv shitbroadcasting, 1910-present.

The point isn't whether the scientists are right or wrong, the point is they're willing to take risks that entails destroying the entire planet.

5 is bullshit, the hole is nothing but a pinhole compared to the size of Earth. The fact that people were afraid of raising demons from hell just shows the fear-mongering involved.

4 is messed up because they were willing to take a slight chance of destroying our atmosphere and wiping out all life for the purpose of building a bomb powerful enough to wipe out all life. What the fuck.

3 LHC is still making advancements and hasn't even started with the black holes yet. They're relying on an evaporation theory which hasn't been observed in practice. One theory is that the microscopic black holes don't evaporate, instead they burrow their way to the center of mass and start consuming from there. I guess that's a small risk needed to advance physics.

4 Thanks for that ring of nuclear radiation orbiting the planet. Good to know we can knock out a country's power grid.

    5. If we contact aliens they are going to fuck us up and take all our resources.

What resources do we have that can't be more easily mined/harvested from a planet without retarded biota?
Unless they are here to serve us.

It can't be for the biomass, then.
Factory farming is far more efficient than hunting wild beasts.
Not to mention, our proteins will probably not be directly compatible with theirs, without substantial modification.

What value, then? Biodiversity, I bet. The genome filtered through natural selection over aeons. I could see them exterminating Homo Saps and then making a return trip every few thousand/million years to sample the more interesting/valuable critters.

    Research and enslavement.

Anyway the odds are nil that our radio signals will reach anything. If aliens capable of interstellar travel were our neighbors, they wouldn't need our TV shows to know we exist. Space is too vast. Unless there is a way to fold the fabric of space and time itself, traveling those kinds of distances aren't possible even at light speed.

Not surprising he was discredited, otherwise high speed particle accelerators wouldn't be running today.

    Anyway, define: theory.

Also, it appears that black holes are 3x easier to make than previously thought, as of last March

Reassuring to know we're still finding flaws in our math while we're in the process of trying to create them.

    Yeah that's what I'm saying.

I love the lengths people go to try and discredit the threat of quantum mechanics.
