Thanks for saving me from this (if I ever wanted to read it, I won't now). I finished Les Miserables recently. The book was great.........except for the pretentious French bullshit and the history of nuns.

Holy shit yes. I loved the witch hunters, and i kiiinda really dug the demon. I read it when i was a gothy lil shit but its still one of my top tens. Gaimen gets on my nerves sometimes, but Pratchett really tempered him well in that book.

RIP Sir Terry, if I could write like you I'd kiss ass wiping goodbye.

Just finished the Scott Pilgrim series. 11/10

That Parappa The Rapper reference in Volume 3 made me briefly put down the book just to sink in how perfect it was.

I'm taking "Philosophy as Literature" next year, so I'm guessing I might also read Republic in a few months.

It was different from what I was expecting. A bit more to the point than I thought it would be.
It's engaging, once you get into it. Though not necessarily the type of book that I would have difficulty putting down.
Still, the ending managed to make me tear up, so I'd say it's worth reading at least once.

I thought so too, although in general, I find Tolstoy more boring than Dosotevsky, Turgenev, or Gogol. It is an interesting book philisophically, since the story of Levin is basically a Mary-Sue for Tolstoy himself, in that the character gets engaged the same way (the intuitive parlor game with Kitty,) and also comes to embody Leo's bucolic Christian-Socialism that he wrote about in correspondence with Gandhi.

Also, maybe it just suited my interests more, but i liked War and Peace better.
