If you're still interested in this subject(mob), i can only recommend Gomorrah. It's pure substance. The author, Roberto Saviano, has two carabinieri cars follow him everywhere, all the time, after 10 years he wrote the book... the mentality of these ppl... :stare: it's mind-blowing, really.

    There is a plot twist:

Galt follows Dagny to New York City, where he hacks into a national radio broadcast to deliver a long speech (70 pages in the first edition), to explain the novel's theme and Rand's Objectivism. As the government collapses, the authorities capture Galt, but he is rescued by his partisans, while New York City loses its electricity. The novel closes as Galt announces that they will later reorganize the world.

I haven't read Atlas...but I read The Fountainhead when I was like 12...and I loved it back then. I tried to re-read it 5 years later and already found it naive and hilarious as fuck...and that sums it up

Last two books I read were The Star-Touched Queen and Wintersong.

It started out okay, but about halfway through the protagonist started acting rather conveniently stupid, culminating to a somewhat mediocre ending without much impact.

Absolutely a huge disappointment. Annoying protag, poor set-up and execution, and very trashy and melodramatic.

The book was so-so. Rand does a good job at combining story with philosophy and there's a good structure of building tension. The book (for the most part) does a good job at illustrating the flaws in socialism and communism. However, there are a lot of problems.

First of all, the characters constantly break out into long monologues, acting as mouthpieces for Rand. The story is constantly broken up by long speeches that people unnaturally break into.
Secondly, Rand's bias is in full display in the way that every character that believes what she believes is described as not only intelligent, but also extremely handsome. The antagonists, on the other hand, are all ugly, stupid, jittery and prone to panic. As if it's impossible for someone who disagrees with Rand to be attractive or as if capitalists are incapable of neurosis. This is either a cheap attempt to manipulate the reader, or Rand's own pettiness shining through. Even a scientist character that once believed in objectivism but has gone astray, Rand goes out of her way to add an entire paragraph to tell the readers he looks like a male model.
Built into this is the fact Rand fails to address some of the basic issues people have with her beliefs like - What about the people who are exceptional but aren't super rich through no fault of their own? Almost all the characters in her book inherited massive amounts of wealth and even the one that supposedly worked his way up from the bottom somehow made enough money to buy an entire factory when he was in his twenties.

Another problem is how lacking in self awareness Rand is. I think you can separate crazy people into two categories based on how single minded they are. The unibomber, in his manifesto, brings up the fact that his plan to get rid of technology will lead to the death of many people. But, unlike Rand, he realizes how this makes him look and spends several pages dancing around the subject to try to distract people from it. In contrast, Ian Rand is incapable of conceiving of anyone not agreeing with her, which leads the book to some unintentionally hilarious statements like characters insisting that the only evil people in the world are those who don't want to get rich.
Even worse is a moment in the book when, due to incompetence, a train is about to be driven into a tunnel where everyone in it will surely die but no one stops it because no one is willing to either take responsibility or tell the rich politician aboard the train that they have to stop and he'll be late because of it. Just before they drive in and suffocate, Rand describes all the passengers on the train one by one and how each of them, in his own way, supported the system that lead to this. The final passengers described are a mother tucking in her two small children, for a moment I thought Rand is trying to show how even innocent people are hurt by this, but instead, the book explains that the mother is guilty too because she supported the education system that raised her kids into anti-capitalists. And then the message becomes clear: They all deserve to die, even the kids.
Hilariously, near the end of the book, one reformed anti-capitalist is shot and the book suddenly breaks into this moralising speech about the sanctity of life.

The speech at the end of the book is the worst part.
Throughout the story, Rand actually does a good job explaining the dangers of welfare states (even if she goes so far as to try and prove you should never do anything nice for anyone), but at the end of the book, Rand's version of the perfect man breaks into a long speech that goes on for 70 PAGES, and it's shit.
In start contrast to the grounded examples an illustrations of the rest of the book, this speech is corny, repetitive and overly abstracted. It hardly makes any sense at all and talks about everyone who doesn't share her views as having "the philosophy of death" and her views as "the philosophy of life" (more or less, translated back to english from the hebrew translation). The book repeats this over and over again for over 70 pages while going off on tangents about mysticism, even though that was never one of the topics of the rest of the book, because it seems like, just as she was getting close to finishing it, Rand got really butthurt about leftists being obsessed with the far east. This entire part is garbage and we're meant to treat it as some brilliant thesis.

But what bothers me most is this - Rand obviously jerks off to this.

I think I may be the first person to ever make this comparison, but Atlas Shrugged is exactly like Twilight.
The book revolves around Rand's author insert character and the two cute boys who are fighting over her. One dark and brooding manly, and the other tall and exotic and both of them are in love with her and want to fuck her (and also they're both rich), but then (!!!) she meets the cutest boy of them all! and he also falls in love with her at first sight! meanwhile the two other boys who loved her develop a friendship that is bordering on homoerotic (I have no doubt Rand had some gay fanfiction of this floating around in her head). Oh! And another way John Galt turns out to be exactly like Edward is that he too stalked her (so romantic!). Basically half the book is dedicated to Rand's secret sexual fantasy.

Well, that' exactly what I was gonna say, it's obvious fap material...The Fountainhead is the same, a pretentious pulp erĂ³tic fantasy

Girls tend to do that a lot...another hilarious example is Morgan's Run, from Collen McCullough...or her Cesar's series, just with way more quality this last one
