We need a new communism, completely reworked. Universal income first step?

20th century communism failed. It was a disaster. Get over it. Still, capitalism has the same problems as described by Marx. Although many things for the workers have improved. Workers' condition in Marx times were terrible compared to what we have in the West today.

We need a new, reworked communism. I think it will be in the vein of Left Libertarianism. What Noam Chomsky defines himself as.

Can Universal Income be the first step towards it? A guaranteed universal monthly income for everyone (working or unemployed; rich or poor). Don't dismiss it before looking into it.

This idea is not impossible. Even many VERY (right-wing) libertarian economists agreed it's doable.

I'm from Europe, technically central, like Zaiger said. I am white Caucasian; have no Asian in me.
I never said I worship the Buddha. Buddhism is not about kissing someone's ass like some other religions.

Buddhism is not only for Asian people. Why would I, as a European, need to be Christian?
Why not pagan? Christianity is not European after all, it's middle-Eastern, rooted in Judaism.

Buddhism has nothing to do with race or nationality. Everyone can become a Buddha. Even animals.
That being said, the idea of a basic income for everyone is great not because I'm lazy.

But because there are some things like natural resources that shouldn't be owned by anyone.
And we should all profit from them. Nobody created oil. So there's no reason why only a few should profit from it.

We should all profit from it. It's like in Alaska, they get paid monthly from what the state makes from oil.
So it's like applying the Alaska system to everything.

It has so many benefits. It simplifies the welfare system you don't need to check who deserves and who doesn't.

Also, money is not just something that potentially can make you wealthy. We vote with money.
Money is what we use to vote for products in the economy.

So this just means a radical democracy. Giving everyone a little income so everyone can "vote" economically. (Contribute to choice of better products etc.)

Lol arbitrary judgement. My condo had a heavy bag when my housemate and I moved in. He is still completely out of shape; I'm running a Spartan Race in two weeks. And do you really think most of us don't profit from oil?

"Buddha fat" = Buddha was not fat at all. Common misconception. You're thinking of a Chinese deity: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budai
"Buddha leeched off parents" = Buddha was born a prince into a rich family. He "leeched" until 29 when he turned his life completely over and gave up all riches to live an ascetic life. How many people you know that do that?

About "people who would leech off" - the basic income would be only enough for minimal living expenses enough for sustaining the biological organism. But humans want other things. Humans want a PS3, or three PS3s. So, that wouldn't be a problem at all.

In my country, if you don't have a job, the state gives you money. But nobody wants to live off that minimum money, so vast majority of unemployed look for real jobs. It's a non-issue.

And the few people who would just live off the basic income - let them. They might be poets, monks, wandering philosophers, and may contribute to society in ways that are not apparent. These would be the minority anyway, because most people want stuff, money, house, car, wife, children.

Most people - including many Buddhists - don't have even the slightest idea of what Buddhism is about. Buddhism is not about kissing Buddha's ass. In Buddhism, things aren't that simple. Anyway, this is not a thread about Buddhism, let's not derail it.

In America you need to pretend you're incapable of work. Then you get money for soda, cigarettes, and cheap street drugs. Or you can get nine months of unemployment. That's fun too.

I think that ultimately, what we as humans need is the discovery of another species of intelligent beings, aka aliens. Right now, we have no rivals. The human species is completely unopposed. then, once everyone realizes we're not alone in the universe, we can stop shooting each other, and start shooting aliens.

There is no reason for me to disbelieve in the life story of the Buddha. The historical exactness is not important to me.
Even if it weren't true, Buddhism is about the Buddha-Dharma, that is, his teachings. Not about believing he was divine or kissing his ass.
Buddha was not divine, merely a human being, like you and me. He reached complete peerless enlightenment. And from then on, spent his life teaching.
Showing us suffering sentient beings a way to cease the suffering, liberate ourselves, and possibly achieve buddhahood.

No that is a terrible idea. It is a welfare system that doesn't force people to work. The problem with our welfare system besides it doesn't force people to work, it creates a system in which some can survive without being a productive member of society. For those who do try to work, much is a system that forces the welfare recipient into slavery. The first thing as someone who wishes to make an impact with their political ideology, you need to realize that you can only change society through modest gains. Welfare reform would be a step in the right direction.

In response to the OP, a better idea is larger wealth distribution. The discrepancies between upper management and entry level is unreasonable, it is leading to a two class society which we both realize is a dangerous precedent. My proposal is to have upper management receive a slightly smaller salary as well as a great reduction in bonuses, this extra money is given to lower level employees. The upper management get down to a lower tax bracket and receive lower tax rates as an incentive. The lower level employees receive more money, meaning not only they spend much more money on the economy, they pay a larger percentage in taxes. Everyone wins in the end. Of course this is strictly a Pascist idea so you as a communist cannot take it since it secures class differences.
