Well they initially resisted the British but eventually the British subjugated them and used them as the vanguard and shock troops of the collaborationist army. Though, to be entirely fair, there was no such thing as "India" until the British arrived. Before then it was a thousand tribes all fighting for themselves, the Sikhs being one of those tribes. "India" and "China" are basically their own continents and the inhabitants are as diverse as the inhabitants of Europe or Africa or the rest of Asia.
