I just watched this trailer a bit late. I'm impressed that Peter Jackson maintained the quality in this film like he did with LOTR. I do find it a bit odd that Thorin is depicted as looking particularly manlike though, and not much like a dwarf. In fact, a few of them looked a little like men and less dwarf. I suppose it's to accentuate the heroic qualities present in the head dwarf of the party. Hopefully this film advances the description of dwarf culture that Tolkien never elaborated on when he was still alive, and neither did his son. I guess Ries-Davies' performance as Gimli in the LOTR trilogy left quite an impression with how I see dwarves - more so than anything I've seen with D&D.

    The trailer:

Oh god, they're actually making this? The Hobbit was the single worse thing I've ever read, and I've read fanfiction.

Fuck me, it doesn't look half bad from the trailer! I knew they were making this (I liked the Hobbit more than I liked the trilogy, actually) but I was - still am, I guess - afraid for the movie. I mean, Orlando Bloom/Legolas is on the freaking actors list. What the fuck for?? They go through Mirkwood but there's no mention of the elven faggot in the book! He'll probably be shoehorned in like Arwen was. Fuck. I don't like how Bilbo looks almost exactly like Pippin though. I think they were related (in that he has Took blood in him) but still.

Also, I heard somewhere they split this up into two parts, is that true? I can't be assed to google it right now.

Still looking forward to this. If they fuck it up I'll rage but probably still buy the Bluray when it comes out.

Not Peter Jackson, Ralph Bakshi, he was a genius when it came to animation back before CG and computerz and shit.

Scheduled to be in theaters next December. Might still be shit but I'm hoping against hope (and prepared to be disappointed).

It looks shitty.... Is it really good? Or is it only good ironically?

I have never heard of Ralph having made an Animated Hobbit movie, i was guessing he was going to maybe make one at the end of LOTR but he NEVER FINISHED LOTR they just got nearly to the end of The Two Towers, and then we got treated to a faggy closing narration from Gandalf that went like this.
after the battle of Helms deep "The forces of evil were driven back away from our lands forever that day, and now i present to you!" *throws his sword in the air and it gets stuck in the ground for no reason* "The LORD of the rings!"

We are both wrong, Arhtur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass directed the 1977 hobbit film

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_(1977_film)

But Bakshi DID use animation along with rotoscoping in the 1978 LOTR film

J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is a 1978 American fantasy film directed by Ralph Bakshi. It contains both animation and live action footage which is rotoscoped to give it a more consistent look throughout the length of the movie.
