    Well since the US/EU is actively supplying/supporting the rebels and since Russia/China are telling Assad to negotiate and appease said rebels, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's going to be the rebels.

    Depends if Assad can get over himself. If he steps down for his second, back to business. Otherwise more war, likely to draw other countries in, even if only in a sabre rattling fashion.

    I doubt there's going to be a real 'revolution' here. The worst which could happen is Assad stepping down in a dramatic fashion and then installing one of his sockpuppets.

    That is really the only smart move for Assad though. At least that way he might be able to maneuver into a shadow position ala Putin.

    Putin never really maneuvered into a shadow position. He's even running for president (and winning the election, the very fine men and women at the Kremlin already know) sunday.
