R.E.M. probably my favorite band of all time, broke up today. After 31 years, they decided to "call it a day". Honestly, I don't have much to say. I'm really sad they won't make any more music together. A small band from a small town in Georgia, and they create an entirely new genre of music. Countless bands have taken inspiration from them. They're one of the few bands I respect enough to buy their music. Stripe's haunting, melancholy voice. Buck's ringing guitar style. Mill's soothing bass melodies. Berry's perfect complimentary drums. Godspeed, R.E.M., sleep tight.

I can't tell what that smiley is. It looks like indifference.

Never really had the chance to get into that band, so that lessens the impact of the announcement.

Murmur, their first album, was released the same year as Michael Jackson's Thriller. Murmur was ranked by Rolling Stone as the album of the year.

Could you recommend me an entry point into their music? What's best to start with?

I can tell you how I got started: I first got a greatest hits. Then I worked my way back.
