Prop 8 should never have come to the vote in the first place. This was to happen eventually as some judge somewhere would look at the equal protections clause in the fourteenth amendment sometime and then look at the effects of the proposition and declare it unconstitutional. It was basically mob rule that passed it. If someone doesn't like the idea of two people of the same gender marrying and possibly divorcing in the future and it doesn't threaten their lives, their personal freedoms aside from feelings, and ability to acquire property, then they should rub some neosporin on their bootyholes and deal with it. Whoever proposed Prop 8 in the first place without checking to make sure it wouldn't be unconstitutional in any way should've had his nuts kicked in for wasting everyone's time and tax dollars. Regardless, gays still can't get married here as it's on its way to the supreme court in the near future for further judgement.

But enough of my gay man rants - what do you think?

Wait, wait, wait. What do you mean they're not given equal rights? A homosexual and a heterosexual have the exact same restrictions placed on them. The exact same. This law is to accommodate homosexuals because they have "special needs."

Putting Mr Pee Pee into some other mans dirtbox is unnatural.

Lesbians, on the other hand, should have more rights that heterosexuals. Public nudity and group sex in parks should be subsidised by the Government, providing no fatties or bitches with crew cuts and hiking boots are participating.

I think I'm being pretty fair & balanced.

Until the Supreme Court rules on it (I imagine sometime in 2013) this issue shall remain unresolved.

There is also the issue of whether or not California will listen once the SC does put out a ruling.

I take this approach to gays,

This is a trevestry, its like the supreme court has voted to give blacks reparations. A straight man could not marry another straight man under prop 8 any more than a gay man could marry another gay man. It was equal, not separate. I hope the supreme court definitively rules once and for all that gays cannot marry.

I'm really distressed by this ruling in light of the overturning of don't-ask don't tell. What we should be doing know is using advanced medical and psychological techniques to sequence the genomes of homosexuals, apply virology models to its spread, and maybe, once and for all, treat the disease. I will be a very happy man when a pregnant mother can finally eliminate the gay gene from their unborn child.

Now, now. Just because you hate homos, doesn't mean you're gay. That's like saying just because you can't stand niggers, you must be a wigger. Doesn't make any sense, does it?

Honestly, my whole concept on life is just this: Whatever floats your boat. You want to be on drugs, go ahead. You want to shoot up some Middle Eastern country? Go right ahead. You want to get fucked in the ass behind a Chuck-E-Cheese? Go right ahead.

As long as people's problems have no direct affect with me, I really don't care.

I'm hearing lots of pretend indifference. Lots of "if it doesn't affect me let them do whatever" which is doublespeak for "I'm a bleeding heart liberal".

I like how the whole reason gays can't marry in the US is completely religious.

Also, this just goes to show how American democracy is dead and buried. All power now lies with the executive and the courts.

It was outlawed due to a referendum, not because the government assumed a religion and made its beliefs the law of the land or because the government took the official stance of an organized religion and made them into law. It was a secular democratic action, in the truest sense of the word. (Apart from that, Edgeworth is wrong. There are many reasons people voted for this, from not wanting to give special treatment to minorities to not wanting to open floodgates.)

With that in mind, what was going through your head when your wrote those posts?

I'm fairly tolerant when it comes to gays. I don't like them, but I don't like a lot of people. I believe in personal freedom, even personal freedom to do stupid shit.

But I don't think they should be able get married. It's one thing to say "ok, you can be gay and we won't try to stop you", but officially recognizing being gay as equal to heterosexuality is another thing, that is the state taking action on behalf of the gays, and they deserve that how?

Sadly, where I live it all has long been decided and gays can get almost-married. At least the churches won't give in to pressure, you have to give 'em that.

You mean social. Such as not wanting to let a pair of gay men use adoption to create their own little private pedo farm.
