So a while back there was a tangent in the messyjessie thread about public/pay phones.

Here's a fun thing you can do next time you go out:

    1) Find the pay phone that is the closest to your home or other regular destination.
    3) Pick it up and see if it has a dial tone.
    2) If it does, call the number displayed on the pay phone from your cell phone AND/OR drop money in the phone to call your cell phone. (Can be skipped if you have seen this phone in regular use.)
    4) Take a photo of the phone in its natural habitat.
    5) Report findings to this thread, including basic location.

    Do it, faggot. For science.

When I was little, we stayed the night at a hotel in Texas on a trip and found a pay phone that was broken. I forget what we did, but it would give out a few pieces of change each time we did whatever it was.

Got like $5 from that thing. It was great. The only other pay phone I recall seeing since is one at a bus station.

The last one that I found that worked was at a Taco Bell in a suburb of Tyler, TX in 2002 or so.

EDIT: Wait, now that I think about it, that would be at the amusement park in Lubbock where I worked in 2005. There was one at one of the games booths and I cranked my supervisor once by calling it as he walked by.

Your life sounds like the Beavis and Butthead video game for the SNES.

A friend and I went shopping for SNES games today because we dug out his old SNES recently and I think the shop we were at may have had that for $4 or $5.

We ended up getting Super Mario World since he's never played it though. We've been cursing out his TV since.

Fucking god damn shape shooting wizard koopa fucked me in the ass too many times.

Goddamn, that's a good deal for SNES games. Around here, fucking hipsters charge out the ass for them due to "vintage" status, which pisses me off to no end because you shouldn't charge the same amount for an old game as you would for a relatively new game (at least, that's my argument because I want to play them, but I'm also cheap).

They range from $3 to $25 or so here, depending on the game. Shit like the old Zelda or Metroid games are usually relatively costly, about $12-$15 at one place and $20-$25 at the other, while the less popular SNES games are only around $5.

Of course, if you have an old Playstation 2 controller laying around, you can by an adapter online for $7 and plug it into your PC and go the emulator and piracy route and save a fuckton of money.

    Also there's this:
    http://www.payphone-project.com/

Their FB page reblogs a lot of payphone photos they find on the interbutts, if you like that kind of thing.

I saw one recently in jail. Jails definitely still exist, since it's where a lot of the money for libraries went. Not that libraries aren't a bit antiquated, but they're mostly used these days to allow the uber-poor access to internet/pornography.

Our local library had to specifically put BlackPeopleMeet.com on its block list.

EDIT: Oddly enough, this library does not have a pay phone in it.

The phasing out of payphones happened so gradually I didn't even notice. Which is strange because it's such a staple to western culture. Any one of us could think of at least half a dozen movies/series which had a payphone in it at some point. I actually didn't realise until about a month before this thread was made when somebody came up to me and asked if I knew of a payphone around. Of course I didn't because, you know, it's no longer the dark age of microprocessors and telecommunications. Christ, the era of when broadband cables were priced in the hundred of dollars isn't that far back.

One time I wrote down the phone number for this phone booth across the street from my apartment and I waited until some guy went to it and answered. I told him that I knew who he was, that I had a gun pointed at him ready to blow his brains out, haha, trolled him so hard.

Then the next day i turned it into a screenplay and got it picked up by those jews in hollywood.

I see pay phones pretty much everywhere, but not as many booths. The only place I see phone booths is in the bus stations downtown. What's the point of this anyway?
