They know they can't stump the Trump. Also, South Park's most recent episode is about Trump.

Yeah I plan on streaming every debate up to the presidential election.

Something about him being dressed as a woman and getting raped. I doubt they did him any favors.

No, it's an equivalent taking over Canada who ruins the country and gets raped to death by Garrison.

Speaking of Trump, he released his tax plan today. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/tax-reform

No taxes for anyone who makes less than 25k (50k if married) and a 15% flat tax on business. Sounds familiar.

He's also supporting universal healthcare, apparently.

Well, it was nice to have a conservative nationalist candidate while it lasted. I guess it's time to go back to supporting Rand so that things can at least get better for ten or twenty years before Mexico and kebab overrun the place.

He sure did. That's not going to sit well with the Republican base, but he just guaranteed himself a lot of Democrat cross-over votes.

The Civil War was where the nation as enshrined in the Constitution died anyway. It went from a voluntary association of states to an empire imposed and administered by a central government. The United States didn't even last 100 years in its original form.

Since then, the Constitution has only been used as a tool for political jockeying, to see what the US Government can convince people it can get away with. Nobody in the fedgov actually feels constrained by it.

I'm about as big a free-marketeer as you get, and even I'll acknowledge that a single-payer system is superior to the current healthcare horseshit we have right now, both in cost and utility. Romney/Obamacare is the worst of both worlds.

I'd prefer going back to the genuine free market healthcare system we had before the 70s, that was actually affordable by the average middle-class family, but if that isn't on the table I'll take the single-payer system in the interim.

And it's about time the Democrats finally start having debates. I guess Hillary was able to finally pencil a date in between meetings with attorneys.

It's a reasonable tax plan, although containing still very high tax rates considering what useful services the federal government provides.

I would have prefered a funny plan.

i thought that change was made when the constitution was written, as the articles of confederation were the closest we were to a "voluntary association of states" (which ended with economic chaos since states wouldn't stop printing their own money and heavily taxing all interstate commerce)

    i like you...
it's weird the effect this election season is having... i remember reading a few months ago that penn jillette said he would vote for bernie sanders because bernie was the only one at the time talking about what his policies would be instead of focusing on inane "my opponent wants to kill babies" shit...
apparently, over half the people in the country favor single-payer health care... 80% democrat and 25% republican support.

The Constitution definitely gave the federal government more authority, especially in regards to currency and interstate commerce, but it was Lincoln who pulled the concept of a voluntary association of states out behind the woodshed and took an axe to it.

From the looks of it, Republicans are stuck with Trump unless someone half as charismatic or twice as rich jumps in the race. No way in hell the Democratic party gives the nomination to Sanders, may as well forfeit the general election.

meh, i think the union was always shaky and tenuous at best... the north and the south have always had two different mindsets when it comes to shit and the north had to practically bribe the south to get them to join the union in the first place. i read that the north was actually debating seceding from the south at one point before the south seceded (then again, i don't have the book here with me, nor do i remember the page number or the circumstances for the secession, so feel free to call bullshit on that if you want to).

I don't recall whether the North was considering secession around the same time, but you're definitely right that the US was basically two different nations, even though ostensibly "unified".

Heck, if anything, the nation's even more culturally fractured now than it was then, which is why I wouldn't be surprised if we balkanize when the federal coffers finally give up the ghost.

It's different now than it was way back then, more akin to Iraq pre and early invasion.

Southern cities like Austen, Atlanta, Raleigh/Durham ect. cultural feel as if transplanted from the west coast where as there are places in the northeast, like upstate New York where they line dance and wave Dixie.

In many ways this is worse.

the differences between the north and south is precisely why i think the south should've been allowed to secede... whenever the country votes on shit there's always this half n half situation and the president wins by 1 or 2 percent... so at any point in time there's never any one half of the country that's really satisfied with the way shit is being run... that alone should invalidate the 'presidential mandate' bullshit

Cuckservatism is probably the most powerful political element in the nation right now. That's spooky.

This thread reminded me to thank D-g I wasn't born an American. You truly have the worst politicians, no competition.
I also look forward to see how our 'special relationship' will develop once we get a President Trump vs PM Corbyn situation.

I like how the guy carries himself. Out of three outsider candidates (Trump/Carson/Fiorina) he's the only one that isn't a complete megalomaniac.

It's still early but something like that would all but seal the nomination.

    Debate afterthoughts

Media machine is in full force blacking out Bernie and declaring Hillary the clear winner
Apparently a D- voting record with NRA = "soft on guns"
Hillary is a woman and that's why you should vote for her
The Other 3 should have their own separate nobody cares debate

Next up is the Trump show on Oct 28
