As I mentioned a few times, I bought a 1954 Renault 4CV and I'm planning on driving that car one day. I'll post any progress I make here.

This was in Summer 2011 when I bought it. Pros at work. (no it didn't fall down)

This was 2 months ago, I disassembled it for sandblasting.

Love the flip flop doors, but what is the entry below the rear window?..wiper?..fuel?
Honestly looks really solid, hows the rockers and underside look?
I have had quite a few 1920's-60's cars

I got a friend who rebuilds old muscle cars.

    car.

When he first purchased it was ready for a junkyard. Now it goes to competitions. I think it's a Regal but I can't be assed the fact check right now. He has a lot of passion for it, the car is his baby.

That's not a muscle car, it appears to be a 83-84 Cadillac coupe de ville slammed on 13'' spokes with an insane paint job.
    Is he Mexican?

Is that on bags or hydros?
I'm guessing hydros, sick car nonetheless.
    Crushed velvet interior?

I think you mean the cooling air entry.
The car is rock solid :D I just finished sand blasting and the metal has nearly no holes caused by corrosion.
The motor is part shit part ok. It ran for about half an hour (after standing around for 30 years) but when I drove 20cm/8" exhaust fumes started to come out of the side of the motor and it worked only when hitting the gas. I guess the head gasket died.
The crank shaft is supposed to be worn out and barely reparable, so I should take one from a later series 4CV or Dauphine. I plan on taking the whole Dauphine motor so I can have 30hp instead of 17hp :meow:

It's hydros, and yea the interior is sick. Can't find a decent pic of it though.

    Little update:
I sandblasted it and threw the best anti-corrosive stuff I could get on it. Unfortunately the surface is beamless and even worse it is rough like sandpaper :D But I don't worry, a good lacquerer can fix this once I have the money for it. And until then it will pretty much guaranteed not rust.

Now I'll take care of the suspension parts and stuff, still gotta figure out what kind of paint to use.

I absolutely approve of this thread, especially since you actually seem to be getting shit done instead of just talking a lot about how awesome your project will be "once it's finished".

Let's say a car like this.

I was hoping people would give me what they paid.

That's a little better but the intake is still sammiched between the exhaust ports. And you'll see that the intake is just a U shaped pipe circling the inner exhaust header pipes. It's just an incredibly poor design. Don't the french know about Charles' Law? The only realistic way to keep the intake as cool as possible is to have the intake have a 90 degree turn upwards and place the carb over the engine block directly and keep as much as the intake ports away from the exhaust headers, or greatly extend the intake ports/tubes greatly so the carb is away from all that heat and the increased distance and pipe negate some of that heat through conduction. But with that you're talking a one off design special header intake, and there are space limitations. If you're going that route, it can be done, but that's expensive, and if you're gonna do that might as well make it out of stainless if you can. But what's the cost/power benefit? Probably not much, I'm guessing you are running high eights compression which is really low. Plus, we are starting with a staggering 17 HP. I've had lawn tractors with more HP.

But I don't' know. Like I said it's an incredibly poor design. I'm not telling what to buy, just commenting on a bunch of engineers sitting down and routing the intake and exhaust like this and not one of them saying, "Pierre, that's a shitty design." I still think it's a cool car and you've made some awesome progress. Body is incredibly solid looking. Keep up the good work. :D

    Thanks, will do :)
Btw, this seems to be the best solution french tuners of the time could come up with (Renault Dauphine Gordini):

yeah look at that stainless steel plate under the carb. that's a heat shield. It doesn't do anything downstream to the mixture but I'm guessing it prevents or minimizes the chance of vapor lock.

You got all kinds of room in there. WTF
