I thought this was worth reading.
ITT: Americans need visual aids to realise just how much they're fucked.
It was supposed to show us where some of this money could be better spent. Any ideas?
Cut spending completely and cut taxes by fifty percent or so. Wait out the storm. Viola.
If you want to take a lesson from history, know the Truman ended the depression by doing something similar.
It won't work in the current political and socioeconomic climate.
When isn't xkcd worth reading?
You're right. No American leader has the balls to say the truth. (At least not one that'll be approved by the governing Democrat/Republican coalition.) Populism is killing America. Ironic, really.
No one is talking about where all this extra money could be better spent.
Billions of dollars are spent every four years on presidential campaigns (more if you include the lavish feasts and festivals of the inauguration, and the money blown on luxuries for politicians). What could we DO with that?
Seku, America's congress blows that sort of money within a day. In any case, I doubt you can do a lot with billions of dollars worth of Monopoly money.
For congress, $200billion, 6 months OR more.
buy snazzy uniforms for the police, military and politicians
The police deserve nothing.
356 / 2 = 178 / 200 = 0.89
My bad. It takes slightly more than a day.
I meant to say "no less". Sorry.
Revised: "It would take Congress more than 6 months to spend several billion dollars."
Anyways, Congress is still spending too much on itself.
Regardless, congress is just a trickle compared to the overall expenditure. Which is what I was referring to.
Okay. That's probably right. That's over.
We're still spending money in the wrong places.
America is spending money EVERYWHERE. So that's bullshit.
Like, like, I can't even comprehend the entire bureaucracy of the US. It's beyond any single man to comprehend.
Of course were spending some money everywhere, but we're spending more money in places that don't need money (like putting incompetent politicians in the lap of luxury, and tax breaks on oil companies), while places that desperately need help (primary and secondary education, subsidies for cleaner energy development, healthcare) are being neglected.
if you're gonna have your police beating on political dissidents they may as well look the part
Throwing money at shit doesn't fix anything. America is a prime example of this.
In terms of America's educational system, the more funding it gets the worse off it tends to be statistically. In terms of green energy, unless it's nuclear it's pointless unless you want to wait fifty years for fusion tech. (If it ever arrives at all.) In terms of healthcare, America spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet and it has supposedly shit healthcare. Etc. Why do I feel like we've already had this discussion? Oh yeah, because we have. I'm not mad, Seku. I'm disappointed.
How can I redeem myself?
Storm the White House with a Kalashnikov in one hand and a bible in the other.
Trolling XKCD forums requires some technique, but it's fun nonetheless
