post any mad science pix or videos here. bonus points for info graphics detailing how to do it.

yeah, I know, big emphasis on electricity here in my OP but anything goes really.

This is a painting by Jon Lombard which inspired Carl Sagan to write about the "spaceship of the imagination" in Cosmos: A Personal Voyage. @Beefcake

You are just upset that I know more about this aspect of science than you can ever hope to catch up with, unless you are willing to learn of course.

You realize I am talking about science as well as I am talking about observable and quantifiable phenonoma, it just doesn't have millions of dollars going into the research (that we know of, I bet there is plenty of blacklisted funding and research going into understanding synchronicity behind closed doors).

    From your own link:

relationships that are not causal in nature.

I would like to see an explanation about how acausal correlations can be quantified

    Or tested. Or duplicated.

    Lol.

A synchronicity is not merely coincidence. For example 90% of the synchronicities I have experienced since I started to observe them (so the past 2-3 years) are of a theological nature/understanding. It relates to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_and_animus

Oh it is quantifiable for it happens in reality, everything is quantifiable as this occurs in reality. However, I realize that atm, our science is not even advanced enough to begin analyzing.

Yeah, and as we all know, theology is totally scientific

And anything that happens in reality is quantificable: Love, solitude, beauty, etc

    :picard:

Dude..., do you have the slightless idea of what science is? I mean, besides that word you use to try to get pussy of the dumbest quality

how do you go about distinguishing actual meaningful 'synchronicities' from ones you only believe are meaningful?

It is hard and it takes time to get use to it. For example: I was explaining to someone what synchronicity is to someone last New Years eve. I was really fucking drunk and I said "for example lets assume I snap my fingers" I snapped my fingers and the coffee machine clicked due to a surge (background: a decent percentage of the synchronicities I have observed involve electronics). He was like "woah" and then started listening to my conversation more closely.

One of my favorite examples I have done with synchronicities was in San Francisco. It was late at night (midnightish) and I was being driven to Oakland by a former EDFer, Thuzadian.

(Background: for a long time me and a wizard I know IRL thought we could turn lampposts on and off at will. Upon further experimentation, we realized this was false. However, we did notice that the lampposts that react this way have some sort of electrical misfiring that makes them go on briefly and then become too bright before turning off. These malfunctioning lampposts occur in clusters of about 2-5. Every few months, the malfunctioning lampposts would start working normally, but new lampposts would start malfunctioning. I think it has something to do with the moon, but IDK since I'm just a fuck with no scientific equipment trying to understand this the best I can).

So back to the story. So I am being driven around SF at night. In some California cities, some lampposts (about 1/6th) are kept off to help save money (LOL). As we are driving along, I said "check this shit out." I randomly select an off lamppost as we are driving, I point to it and it turns on. This happens 3 times (I only pointed at 3 btw) as we drive in the city. I point at an off lamppost at random, seconds later it turns on because it was a malfunctioning lamppost. My IRL wizard friend has done this once in a random location, but with only one lamppost.

I believe that single most interesting thing about sychronicities is that when you are trying to prove they exist to someone, they are much more likely to happen than when you just want to further reinforce your own belief in them.

That sounds pretty cool but you can guess that I don't buy it.

Have you heard of something called 'selection bias'? It basically runs along the lines that, when you're observing something, a positive result, or something happening, is much more memorable than nothing happening at all.

Your story about the flickering lights is a great example of the sort of thing it applies to. I bet you've tried this on half dead lampposts you've walked past plenty of times and whether or not they've turned on or off had nothing to do with anything you did. So those event aren't going embed temselves into your consciousness, unlike the time it did and was totally cool.

Oh yes I have heard of selection bias and I have accounted for that. It still doesn't explain things are weird. The only reason I believe I am a "wizard" is because I have faith, not because I know empirically that it is me doing this. For example, it could be my anima subtly directing my actions, which I have no direct control over.

@Beefcake I am not crazy, I am just confused. I am willing to accept my conclusions are wrong, but not my observations. I am completely aware of the notion of double think and apply it to my analysis of "magic." So please stop thinking I am full of shit, but rather I am an ignorant individual observing preternatural phenomena.
