so my current project is my 88 Camry, seeing as it looks like the Skyline is going to be sitting at my friends house until the end of time

I was going to reserve a couple of post under this to show the progress on the first page but cbf

when I first got the car it had factory "4s" in the front (they were really 3.5s) and no rear speakers or wiring at all.

so the first thing to do was replace the factory head unit, which was actually a replacement for the original and the retard that installed it riveted it in. I replaced that with a shit head unit I bought insanely overpriced but didn't care at the time.

Next was replacing the front speakers. So I bought some cheap 4"s, think they were Pioneers. They were shit but better by far than the originals, they're still in there as I write this.

Next were the rear speakers, I got some JVC DVRN 6.5s, which are very good for the price, about $60, and got my cousin to install them, coz I'm a shit cunt

So that the current setup, soonto go in are some new 4s, probably Hertz, and then probably some Alpine 6.5s, no subs yet but I plan to get at least 2000w

pics and vids when I can

Heh. That's the most masculine thing I have heard on EDF. Working on project cars as a hobby. Usually it's a bunch of nerds concerned about girls ruining video games.

Well.....the Camry was my girlfriends car I bought for her, now we only have my VZ so technically none of the cars mentioned have been 'project cars'

You retard. You really think putting a shitty stereo system in a shitty car makes it a 'project car?'

52k in abbo dollars is like 30k in real money. That's what most low to mid range cars cost new.

Isuzus are actually pretty beast. There's a bunch of Troopers still driving around from the 80s/early 90s, and they make a bunch of commercial vehicles too.

I've got a '55 Olds project sitting around, waiting for someday. It was a project for Dad and I, but money troubles and such have it on hold. Something's up with the old transmission (aside from it being pre-standardization of shift patterns) and we'll probably have to drop a few k to have it fixed up.

Some friends and I did get it running, though, which was a feat in itself. The thing was last registered in the 1980s, so it hadn't run since at least back then. Thing smoked and sputtered a hell of a lot, which is to be expected. I had to clean some damned dirt dauber nests out of the exhaust and my buddy had to rid them from the carburetor, which was all a colossal pain in the ass, but it was worth it to hear the old girl run for a bit.

Somebody down the road from me is selling a silver '97 Camaro for $3700. It's been sitting on his lawn since Fall and I figure he wants to get rid of it pretty bad. I drive a rusty, $400 '98 CR-V right now, which I obviously can't work on. The Camaro might be ugly, but it got good reviews on various websites and it has potential. It would also be my first car.

I'm trying to get a job now to get the $2500 more I need for it. I'm worried someone will nab it before I have the money.

Also @Mr. YVRH go fuck yourself, you lucky son of a bitch.

Oh, that's not too bad. He's only overcharging by $2700.

Is it at least the V8? Or is it a gutless V6?

I'm hoping he'll shave a fair amount off the price. He might be putting the price tag so high because he's expecting people to haggle the price lower. I'm not sure what engine it has, but if it's not a V8 I'm taking my money elsewhere. It's just that this one caught my eye, since there's not much good stuff around here for sale.

Apparently, although "good" is more a function of skill and patience than anything else. Can you turn a wrench or are you scouring Craigslist looking for cars in good shape? I can tell you right now that a good car on Craigslist is going to be just as overpriced as buying from a used car dealer, only buying from the dealer can help your credit score whereas the CL buyer is probably just gonna be difficult.

I'd love to take something older and give it new life - I'd love it more than anything else. Unfortunately, where I am right now, I lack the skills. I'm just starting to delve into automotive technology. I'm more looking for something in good shape with potential - something "good, but could be better."
