Would you support the former and join the latter? (The original. Not the revisionist bullshit Kojima's trying to shove down everybody throat.)

And the best part is that since this is classic Outer Heaven, when Snake kills my ass I won't spend an hour telling him about my sad life
I'll EXPLODE (I was so happy when MGS3 went back to this, too bad 4 brought it back with that asshole calling you on the phone after every fight)

MGS4 was the worst one. It felt too contrived. "Here's the backstory, NOW BE SAD."

I still replay the final boss every once in a while though
    I'm a sucker for hand-to-hand choreography
Only reason why I keep Twin Snakes

Also, MGS4 was trying to explain everything away with nano-machines. That, THAT, was unbearable. In a world with psychics and mediums and artificial intelligence and cyborgs, things like possession and immortality are too farfetched? Not to mention the weapons/items in the game which allow you to, among other things, turn invisible, have infinite ammo, take (spastic) control over an NPC, shoot stored "sunlight" at people and fire a tornado at people.

The sunlight gun is a joke reference to Kojima's vampire stealth games
Everything else though, yeah, that was a slap in the face
I really enjoyed the fact that he never bothered trying to explain why I'M COVERED IN BEES had his powers or why The Fury turned into a giant flaming face

Those were hornets. And they ripped it from Ninja Scroll. The Fury had a space suit. (And used rocket fuel to power his flame-thrower, but I digress.) If you knifed him during the fight (thus rip his suit) it would make attacks against him more severe. Frankly, if I were to look at things that don't make sense I would concentrate more on the dubious codenames, The Fear, The Sorrow and Volgin. (Honk, honk.)

MGS was brilliant because it mixed everything together. Futurist technology with the supernatural. Deconstructing stereotypes and cliches. Blending gaming and cinematography. Mixing gameplay with storyline. Constantly breaking the fourth wall, both subtlety and overtly. Up until MGS4, that is. It's quite clear he purposely made it shit to stop fans wanting more. Of course it didn't.

I'M COVERED IN HORNETS doesn't have the same ring
Also I didn't feel like writing a novel so I stuck to mentioning the things that make me laugh
Having stealth camo and shooting lightning don't make me laugh
Being COVERED IN BEES and turning into a giant flaming face do

Regardless, I think we can both agree that everything good sort of went out the window with MGS4. Which is quite sad, as it had so much potential.

Everything went out the window with MGS2, where Kojima began his trolling of the players in earnest after being forced to come back and work on it
MGS3 was nice, built an awning over the window, but I had no expectations for 4, and sure enough, it pissed out that window
Series could have stopped after Metal Gear 2 or MGS1 and I'd have shed no tears
