    The only things I can think of (when it comes to different species/races) are these;
Kessah and other furry trash have better hearing and sense of smell than humans.
Kessah's species is either uncommon or Kessah just hasn't met many of them.
You don't call the satan-looking beings "demons".
    The fish people are tough.

There's no reason to have bunch of different species and they add nothing but meaningless filler and faux-content to the story.

He could've done a lot with it. Even generic fantasy gives some variation between species if nothing else, although most of the time there's clear cultural, societal and political differences as well.
In JJ's comic, if there is actual unsaid differences between the species, the characters' attitude towards them is pretty much utopian.

Brown guy is the only one speaking sense once again. A bunch of rookies trying to rescue someone would most likely just result in a bunch of dead rookies, in addition to the trapped team also dying. It's better to organize a proper rescue team and take the risk that the trapped peeps will die, rather than risk doubling the death count.
These characters are all a bunch of morons.

Wait, did he die? I thought he was just in critical condition? Why wouldn't they build a makeshift stretcher and carry him with them? If the guy's still alive, you don't just leave him behind.
And if he actually is dead, and not just unconscious, then we can all bet dollars to donuts he's gonna get eaten by the zombie people in the holes.

Wait dammit, I thought they weren't going to try and rescue the trapped hunters? I thought the black guy had talked some sense into them? Why are they making more stupid decisions?

And so we ended up with the team of newbies getting a casualty or two on their first mission anyways.
I would complain of pacing, but at least something is happening.

Brown guy continues to be the most relatable character. Points to him for hitting the nail on the head with Kessah.
Sadly, no one listens to brown guy and the wise things he has to say.
Also, that last speech bubble is a clear example of how useful those two editors have been.

It looks like a flounder that swam in a radioactive dump.
How that thing manages to dismember people the way it does, I have no idea. It doesn't look like it's be able to rip people apart, or be fast. It looks like the most it can do is sit with its mouth open, and hope something happens to wander in so it can mash it into paste.
There's more to monster design than making them look weird, Joseco.

Yea, if I was a rookie and saw that mutant piece of shit, I'd quickly side with the young brown skinned asshole. Kessah has no idea what she's saying. And what are the odds that it'll bite them hard?

okay, that's it. I officially can't take it any more. This has been going on since the beginning.

this has been going on since the beginning.

Look at this. I'm just using the shareware version of SAI and there are all kinds of fun pressure and texture tools to mess around with. You don't need to have big flat strokes everywhere, it's an eyesore not that the entire comic wasn't already.

ADDITION: I mean, what are those marks even supposed to be? It's not shading, it isn't tracks in the dirt, and if it's trying to be brush strokes it looks like crap.

I see now, the captain was actually suicidal the entire time. This has all been an elaborate ruse so that he can finally achieve the death he so sorely yearns for.

I would imagine the ranks is simply a way of organizing the guild and determining which members are best suited to which jobs. And that Kessah was awarded a higher starting rank for taking down the monster.
Outside of that, I'm not sure. Maybe high ranks get paid more?

Good god is that a lazy scene cut. Would it have killed him to draw a few more costumes to eat up the page and then do a good full-body shot of the final armor after the pageturn?

Alright, since we're doing this shit again, here's a quick summary of bullshit that's happened.

Kessah got assigned a new room + roommate and it's Asharia, whatta surprise. For some reason Kessah thinks a ceiling fan is a luxury.
Kessah is of course the talk of the guild now after that hunt with the new monster. Even though we don't know enough about monsters to know that the one she dealt with was new, so the impact is lost on us as the audience.
Lesbian nonsense happens, and Kessah for some reason wants to go do strenuous exercise to deal with a hangover she gets at a dumb party.
Also Joseco traces his own fucking shit.

    Some annoying new bitch appears.
Contradictory information happens when one bitch comments that they didn't get to fight the demon goats until they were rank E, yet later when Kessah and her girlfriends go to sign on for a new mission, all the G-rank missions are centered on demon goats.

Also, it appears that it's actually a free sign-up system for going on hunts, which begs the question of why they would organize teams and specific captains in the first place. And isn't it kind of dangerous to have randomly assigned teams for each hunt? No camaraderie or sense of workflow can be developed, and the captains can't plan around everybody's strengths and weaknesses. Randomly assigned teams work in vidya because it doesn't actually matter if the team wipes. But in a setting where death is final and they have issues with gaining new recruits, it's retarded that they would have random teams all the time.

For some reason armor shopping is limited to what rank you are, which seems a bit daft. Shouldn't it be based on what you can afford? They're kind of setting the lower ranks up for failure by giving them shittier armor on purpose.

    Also Kessah has ptsd lmao.

And they're off to another shitty hunt. Let's hope it goes about as well as the last one.

EDIT: added links because images were borked.

I can't help but remember a reported conversation between a manga artist and his editor where the editor commented something along the lines of "Maybe beating up street gangs isn't the most epic storyline for your samurai action manga." and made the artist introduce an actual fucking story. Replace "street gangs" with "random-encounter monsters" and you have HUNTERS OF SALAMANSTRA.

Joseco is a case study in why editors are sometimes a necessary evil when making comics.
