The last two seasons were shithouse. S19 as well, to an extent.
Usually when someone says "South Park used to be funny" or something to that extent, it's because one of the more recent episodes blew some sand up their .
S19 made fun of SJ cultists yet I found it bad. Parker and Stone admitted that S20 was shithouse because they basically didn't plan it even though the whole season is a single storyline.
You haven't thought this through. It's okay for shows to get bad. Simpsons didn't get bad because I began to disagree with them politically. Did you? Is that why you don't watch the Simpsons any more?
I stopped watching The Simpsons around season 20 and tbh it was still fine. Hell, even the newer episodes are fine.
There are just other shows to watch.
Also South Park has been shit since season 12, what the fuck are you talking about?
Whatever. The point I'm making is that it's not because of politics for me. I consume plenty of entertainment which I disagree politically. Indeed, I encourage my views to be challenged.
All that aside, I don't know why the last three seasons, perhaps even more than that, were so bad. Compared to previous. Is it because of the single overarching storyline? Perhaps. I don't think the style was made for it.
I'm pretty happy I cucked Baya so hard he had to pussy out and put me on his ignore list.
the world keeps changing and things keep stagnating and dying slowly because they dont understand their irrelevance.
comedy and horror are both dead genres.
we have social media and fake news for those now. and we have had our fill.
S19 and S20 were shit because they were trying to go with a narrative the whole season.
S21 was better.
South park WAS way better when they were still coming up with fairly original ideas, instead of writing episodes based on what happened in the news that week. At some point it just turned into a current events commentary.
The best horror movie (with a wide release) this year was IT
I recently rewatched the entire series and the sweet spot is from end of season 1 to about season 8, where most of it was weird adventures and guest spots. The best episodes are complete nonsense (like finding a man frozen in ice from only 2 years prior and acting like he's some long lost relic).
I'd more a little more generous and probably call it from 1 to 15 or so, they're were still doing current events shit during that time but at least it wasn't every episode.
But yeah I agree the best ones were the ones that they were actually creative with.
Didn't this have more to do with them killing Trump, putting Mr. Garrison in his place, and then shitting themselves when he actually became President? And after real-life wrote that plot, they flat out said that they're never going to do something like that again. The meta of that situation is more hilarious than anything they could ever produce.
Garrison just straight up runs against Clinton, but immediately regrets it when he realizes how dumb most of the country (including Clinton) are.
And honestly that stuff was boring, aside from one or two scenes. When the real life inspiration is more ridiculous than the satire, you've fucked up.
Yeah, the show was boring. The meta is hilarious though. They basically had a character from the main cast stolen from them by forces beyond their control, and they won't get him back for 4 to 8 years.
Gretchen, I only give a shit about Trump when it's relevant. South Park went downhill when they gave themselves over to partisan hackery. I just find it funny that the creators fucked up by writing themselves into a corner, and did so in such an obvious manner.
Yeah, name me two better animated tv-show about 4 kids in Colorado, i'll wait.
Pretty much this. I don't hate Simpsons or South Park and I usually chuckle whenever I happen to see them.
But they've both been on for over 20 years. I'm just over them.
All comedy shows that peaked in the 90s have been replaced and succeeded by the internet.
That only explains S20. And yes, Parker/Stone admit that Trump's victory blindsided them and made them throw random stuff into the later episodes because that had no idea what to do. But, you know, the earlier episodes were also shit.
Trump winning kind of fucked with their heads, and I think they're still trying to recover from that. The last season was still doing their continuity schtick, but never came to any kind of head or conclusion. Because they were on the same bandwagon that was certain Hillary was going to win, they made the mistake of putting one of their own characters in the white house. Now they're fucked when it comes to story conclusions, because anyone in south park can call garrison up and ask for a presidential favor.
Last season ended with him wandering around in the woods or some shit, so I think they're trying to find some way to backtrack on that joke. However, the alternative to Garrison in the white house is Trump, and they've already gone on record saying they don't find it fun to make fun of Trump because he acts like a character they've already written and he still dominates the weekly news cycle.
Honestly I think the election might have broken them, and they're only keeping on because they're contracted for another season or two.
Is Baya Rae dead?
Never had a life to begin with, brah.
That's a fine point actually. Let me fix that... Take this.
Good. Now you can die.
