    SURPRISE SURPRISE

I KNEW IT, I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!

The only reason Obama was against sopa was because it was an election year, now that the election year is over and Obama isn't getting a third time, he doesn't give a shit about us anymore.

Now he's siding with his buddies and is re-instating sopa.

Obama administration is powerless, supreme court rules the land. This will never pass, too many loopholes. Probably just a political distraction. Someone's about to get carpet bombed.

Congress can't even pass a simple farm bill, I somehow doubt they'll be able to pass this.

I wish some terrorists would bomb us, so that the US govt. could get its act together, and hopefully keep it that way.

I think a founding father or other old-timey dude said something about American government needing a revolution every once in a while to keep things current and fresh.

    No wai.

We would totally be helping the down-trodden Syrian peoples by invading and leading their rebels to victory over their horrible oppressive popular despised president. No carpetbombing. We are making plan a "hike" through Damascus. Good fun.

If anything it won't pass because the GOP vehemently shoots down everything Obama drops into the House. Plus the Supreme Court does not give two shits about the other branches and will pull this bill immediately.

    Thomas Fucking Jefferson~
If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had 13. states independant 11. years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century and a half for each state. What country ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure.

The founding fathers, like Jefferson, were fascists for liberty. They didn't give a fuck about your flesh and blood, and would gladly send you as cannon fodder into battle to die like a bitch for those liberties. If shit like 9/11 happened with guys like Jefferson in charge, he would have been like "as if I would restrict my citizens' liberty in response to 3000 people dying." It would have taken at least several hundred thousand people to die in such attacks before these sort of men would even bat an eyelash about thinking about sacrificing liberty for security.

If you don't like the concept of being cannon fodder for liberty, why the fuck aren't you living in a nanny state like North Korea or Britain?

They were basically hypocrites in a lot of disappointing ways, though. Bootlegged whisky and smuggled rum financed our rebellion and what were the first two things we did after gaining independence?

    1. Punish distillers by imposing a harsh tax on all whisky (when the people got pissed, the rebellion was put down by none other than Captain Liberty himself)
    2. Introduce harsh tariffs on imports (entire federal gov't was funded by tariffs up until 20th century) forcing entrepreneurs into smuggling.

We didn't exactly stick to our principles.

I think we overrate the founding father's. we were all taught in school that they were these wise men who shared a dream of freedom. Yeah, no. They are just like the leaders of today, corrupt, greedy, and they'll do whatever I take sto the people to get what they want.

History is full of people like this.

Well the point was we told the British to go fuck themselves over their import tariffs on Spanish, Dutch, and French goods. Rum-bearing Cutters and Sloops from the Dutch East Indies were a regular feature in the dead of night in Carolina ports. We hated tariffs and embargoes and resorted to smuggling to get around them. Then we promptly put up our own.

    Edit: I forgot the rum

It depends on the Founder. Guys like Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, etc. were chill. Hamilton was kind of sketch. I would argue Jefferson was pro-freeing slaves in the formation of the United States of the Union given his Abrahamic values and stated that in some notes he wrote, but because gave up freeing niggers in order to maintain the Union and since slaves (as they were unpaid, this allowed faster capital accumulation) were necessary to develop an agrarian base which would lead to economic prosperity at a faster pace (which it has resulted in) than freeing them and then requiring to pay them.

It was a tax they never got to vote on formally and was locally unpopular in PA (by a wide margin) and in many other states. It was the first sign of the end of the Republic and it came from the original American nanny-statist: Alexander Hamilton (may he rot in hell).

It was also the beginning of corporatism as in rural areas whiskey was easier to transport and sell through the harrowing terrain of the hills than bulk grain. It was often used as barter currency. Eastern distilleries managed to wrangle a "tax break" out of the whole ordeal. It was the first collusion of the elites and the state against the average jackass trying to get by.

Things got so unpopular that Hamilton advocated full military suppression to subdue people who were pissed about being taxed for their own property. Hamilton was a less faggy version of Robespierre.

The Whiskey Tax was basically the first instance in the US that demonstrated that politicians were willing to bite the hand that fed them in order to gain the alliance and assets of powerful moneyed elite and the reverse. It's ground zero for every bad decision this country made. It is the oldest and earliest form of income tax and the only one that existed up until the mid-19th century and then again until around the mid-20th. And it was select to one group of people with one profession.
