Anyone got more news on the Protect the IP bill?
Yes. It sucks.
Ok guys this is your last warning.
Shut. The. Fuck. Up.
It is a bill.
A Bill is not a law.
It will not pass.
If it passes, our remarkably pro 1st amendment court, which is so first amendment it gave corporations the right to contribute to campaigns (and that IS a first amendment issue you philistines) will reverse it. You guys are like fucking sheep, getting all outraged at whatever reddit or 4chan tells you to get outraged about. Go power off your macbooks and go the fuck to bed, because only grown men should be up at this hour, not pussies like you guys.
I'll make you guys feel useful:
Go to http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/?fp and sign your name.
Once 500,000 signatures have been reached, the bill will be voided and you saved the world from being less annoying.
I hat ethis, I see it on facebook, on wikipedia and everywhere. People are so fucking conformist, there is this terrible trend of it becoming hip to protest, and so the end result is more conformity than ever before.
it's a poorly written document but people are blowing it out of proportion and making it into something that it's not.
The truth is that what the law is going to do is make it harder for you cheep asses to illegally download movies, games and music that you should be paying for anyway.
And all the whiny internet faggots over at 4Chan are trying to make it look like some sort of civil liberties issue or fight for free speech because they don't want to have to pay for shit.
Going up against this bill does not fight against censorship but rather protects copyright infringements.
Anyone have a link to the bill
who cares? the hundreds and millions of people lonely computer nerds on the internet will find hundreds of ways around it withing a month for us. and that's if it passes
For the record, the bill itself has caused deviantART to become a MUCH more whiny place all of a sudden, with cohortes of tARTlets moaning about a regulation they have not read, fully passing their judgement into the hands of every minor outlet that describes potential outcomes of SOPA without even referencing it.
Mods, I beg you to lock this thread and forbid the discussion of the bill.
guessing that's meant to be irony.
No, I'm dead serious, I'm so sick of you queerbaits whining about this.
mostly because it's clear not a single one of the people on this thread has read as much as a summery of the bill they are apposing.
lol I am DEAD SERIOUS GUYS. HAHA
I have, it is called reading the news. This bill is redundant at the very least and should be opposed. It also creates unnecessary regulations that would hurt business and should be opposed. The debate regarding if it is really like the Great Firewall of China is up in the Air. But to be honest, do you really trust your government anytime soon to behave responsibly when it comes to human rights? I don't and that is why it should be opposed.
even if the bill isn't as bad as these people are making it out to be (which it probably isn't) it still further complicates matters.
also, governments tend to be liberal in terms of how they use the law to further their interests, so it's probably for the best that they don't get those tools to begin with
1.it's not redundant. The law right now is doing a poor job at stopping people from downloading things for free that they should pay money for. is it well written ? hell no.
But it's still a law about intelectuall property, not wetever it is that people are trying to make it out to be cuz they don't want to pay money for shit.
2. hurt business ?
Stealing movies, and music and games hurts business.
3. "DO YOU RLY TRUST UR GOVERMENT TO BLAH BLAH BLAH BAWWWW..."
God,stop with this dystopian nightmare bullshit. You faggots get on that shit every time there is a law you don't like.
Also,it's not MY govement,it's your's.
i don't give a shit.
lOLz, u Talk funni
then it's none of your goddamn business
Be absolutely worthwhile if the new IP laws means that Copyright infringing fan "art" is pulled BY LAW.
all that would be left after that is to report all the pornography of underage teenagers there and it's done a better internet.
oh and youtube, probably will be unaffected by it, since Viacom fancies itself the proprietary owner of EVERYTHING even original content filmed in someone's basement on a handycam.
No,it's my entertainment.
NO U !
America already has numerous laws respecting intellectual property. Instead of creating new laws, maybe they should enforce the old ones better or rewrite them. I stopped downloading music illegally because I would rather own physical copies. All the music I have downloaded illegally is music from bands that I plan on eventually buying all their albums in a physical form once I have the money to buy 16GBs of music. Not only that, but these bands don't give two shits about people downloading their music, you know why? Cause they make so much from simply going on tour. Many of them don't even need to tour America because they get so much fucking money from touring Europe or South America.
It hurts small software businesses by making it extremely costly to challenge something that is ruled against them when it comes to intellectual property. Businesses are already making numerous advances to stop piracy. Gaming platforms like Steam really hurt pirates because it allows gaming companies to update their software, pirates cannot do this. Musicians will still have live concerts. And most people don't pirate shit.
My government has tortured not only "alleged enemy combatants" they have tortured and falsely imprisoned white Americans. The idea that patriots are safe from a tyrannical government is false. I would consider myself intensely patriotic, but I know that this doesn't save me because I am still a political dissident. They commit rampant spying because it creates jobs for the security industrial complex.
Ughhh. The Bill of Rights can only go so far. Is it gonna take people protesting to stop companies from being able to sue me. Most people don't even pirate videogames. Movies and CD's yes, but that's because those industries have a stick far up their ass.
Try not to sound to high. People might not think you're crazy.
Fuck censorship. Fuck major corporations that buy the politicians that you and I vote into office. Fuck fascist fucking pigs that "protect and serve." Fuck self-serving and egotistical college professors that spoon feed young Americans bullshit that caters to further empowering those faggots in power.
FUCK DA POLICE
1.The fact it's so easy for you to download illegally proves my point.
and the fact that musicians make alot of money does not make it o.k for you to steal some of it.
2.Stealing this shit makes it hard for small companies to function the same way it makes it hard for small software companies.
Except the music/game/film is the victim of piracy while these software companies are the criminals.
also,"most people don't pirate shit" ? who are you kidding ?
3.Cut the shit. Stop trying to imply that you not being able to steal the new "green day" album is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the USA being iran.
I know it doesn't but when it gets to the point where their producers upload basically all their music to youtube, it gives the impression to the fans that it is okay to steal. Especially these producers only enforce intellectual property for the first month of a new release and then don't give a fuck anymore
The actual numbers involving how many people pirate shit is not as great as you think. Not only that, but there are economists who argue that piracy of music is actually better for the band in the long run. The reasoning for this is that with their music free and easily accessible, more people are going to become fans. The more fans there are, the more money bands will make from concerts and there will always be enough diehard fans who will buy a physical copy.
No this is not what I am implying at all. I write political theory and I am completely aware how much America infringes on human rights on a daily basis. In the past 60 years, the American government has forcefully sterilized thousands of people they have deemed as "unworthy to reproduce" on grounds for them being mentally unstable or retarded. Now the problem with this is that many of these people aren't mentally unstable or retarded. What makes this even worse is that many of these people don't know they have been sterilized. I can cite more examples if you need to be convinced further that America is a hypocritical piece of shit police state. Like this isn't simply like Iran, this is like Nazi Germany eugenics.
