Religion is for the stupid. If you have to fabricate an omnipotent being to explain something rather than using science and facts or simply allowing the cause to remain unknown, you are a fucking idiot.

I'm mainly posting this to solicit a response from CW94. If you're not him, please piss off, thanks.

I wish to engage CW94 in a thought out debate over the perils of religion, and the ignorance of Christianity.

The burden of proof is on he who made the original claim. In this case, the claim is that a god exists.

Well, Electric eel said in OP that religion is for stupids, and I want proof of that...the burden is in him

The list of amazingly intelligent people who are/were religious goes on and on, btw.

In fact, all the fathers of the scientific method, from Avicenna to Newton, were profoundly religious people

    See?

That was when science hadn't yet proven that the notion of God was silly

If you weren't a supposedly religious person back then, you got burned at the stake as a heretic.

Maybe one or two of those were closet atheist, but I doubt it.

In fact, the two examples I mentioned were profoundly mystic on their own, not by bullying

Ibn Sīnā, or Avicenna, the father of modern medicine, was a devout Muslim and sought to reconcile rational philosophy with Islamic theology

Avicenna wrote a number of treatises dealing with Islamic theology. These included treatises on the Islamic prophets, whom he viewed as "inspired philosophers"

Ibn Sīnā memorized the Quran by the age of seven, and as an adult, he wrote five treatises commenting on suras from the Qur'an. One of these texts included the Proof of Prophecies, in which he comments on several Quranic verses and holds the Qur'an in high esteem. Avicenna argued that the Islamic prophets should be considered higher than philosophers.

And don't get me started on Newton.

Ol'Isaac spent way more time willingly investigating the Bible than calculus, and Alchemy than gravity...

Whilst not religious myself, I certainly believe people should have the right to practice their own faiths, so long as they don't harm anybody and don't try and shove it dowm ny throat.

And in modern times, there is an inverse relation between a person's scientific accomplishments and religious beliefs. Basically the smarter you are, the less likely you are to believe in a god.
