Does anyone in the forum still have these kind of tv's, you know the one with the big shit in the back? Cause they feel so old now since everytime i go to one of my friends house they all have flat screen tvs. More importantly should i switch to flat screen tv's or should i stick with this one?

My TV is a very large box which is over a decade old. I won't feel the need to waste money on another television until mine has completely died.

Don't acknowledge the feeling of aging by buying shit to make that feeling go away. Look at me: I just came back here for, basically, the first time in 2 years. Still trying to figure out how to get to my dramatica email account.

You mean the kind you could keep all your consoles on and stick memos on the screen with the static?

Not quite. The area at the front is larger than the area at the back.

Right, and you had to measure three dimensions to make sure it would fit in the house when you bought it because it was just that thick?

We had a TV similar to this growing up

The main differences being that our TV's woodwork was shabbier and the buttons were round buttons you had to push half an inch in to get to do anything. We had that since before I was born, so it's at least a couple decades old now.

Still worked last time I visited my parents, too.

Old CRTs like yours apparently have the best picture quality. Apart from that they're bulky, picture size is relatively small and they consume more power.

So, in the long run it might be cheaper to get a flat screen TV. But I wouldn't be too sure about it since the flat TVs wear out faster and you might need a replacement quite soon.
I'd just stick with it if you don't plan to move the thing regularly and you don't need a larger picture.

I used to have a TV set my dad bought in the 80s. It had a giant screen by 80s standards, but it was also insanely bulky. And heavy. I eventually destroyed it when I accidentally dropped it down a flight of stairs while moving. It was quite epic, it broke into like a million pieces.

Now I don't have a TV anymore. Big TFT screen and a TV card does it just fine.

Mine was the same, more like a piece of furniture, some had turntables and receivers built into them.

If your television has "shit in the back", then you might want to follow up on that. CRTs get warm, you know.

The only real reason to have a flat screen is so you can fill your entire wall with picture, without having to put in re-enforced flooring. If you aren't going to get a cinema sized TV, I wouldn't bother updating.

    Also,
