It saddens me that Linux (desktop) will never get close to Windows.

    Yes they are.

    How about this..

    A company needs 3000 computers.
You can guess what OS they will be running.
Microsoft will be the only company for a long time.
OS X is so far away and so is Linux.

Not necesarrily. Linux has really taken off outside of the US. Many foreign governments have started adopting it in place of windows due to matters of cost and security.

True that happened here as well, but they are switching back to Windows because of ease of use.

Microsoft will always be the dominating company, simply because they have the money.. and money is power ;)

BSD or Linux? Which is better?

I use both. I have Darwin (BSD-based system), Debian and Ubuntu (gnome, because unity sucks balls)

I think it depends on what you want to do. BSD is very well known for its high level of security.

Edit: This doesn't apply to Apple ofcourse, because Apple is very unsecure.

OpenBSD has some holes, but those were implemented.
There is a .pdf somewhere on the internet

FreeBSD on the other hand is very secure.
If I recall correctly my ISP uses FreeBSD

Didn't the FBI put a few backdoors in the IPSEC stack of OpenBSD? I think I remember something like that.

Edit: Also, this server runs FreeBSD afaik :-p
