Isn't this great? Let's see the publishers blame this on those pesky torrent sites!

Since they're selling it on the black market they'll probably be reducing the price to a tenth. So it's more like 40000 euros.

5000 copies are worth 551 thousand dollars? That's $110 each. That is like when they say in the news that an $800 oz of cocaine is worth like $20,000. Do the people that do the estimates for this shit just pull those numbers out of their asses?

Actually, that's pretty much how much new games cost in the PAL zone. Give or take. I wish I was kidding.

That's still p nice. I know I could do a lot of things with that kind of cash, none of which would be related in any way to gaming.

They're quickly getting to the point where games will not last that much longer, at least when it comes to single player.

They'll always be a market for singleplayer games. In Australia, at least. In all seriousness, this online gaming craze is a bubble that will someday pop like a zit.

God I hope so. I'm tired of rushed products that focus very little on the solo campaign and more on the multi-player. If I want to hear 13 year olds curse and rage-quit, I'd play WoW.

I guess, but since the CoD series is such a sales behemoth, most publishers seem to think that 5-6 hours of single player campaign are enough these days. Or think the Drake series, no multiplayer at all, and you can finish it in a day. Why would I spend 50€ on a game that short?

Deus Ex: HR, while not as long as the original by far, was a welcome relief from that trend.

Like why? A lot of modern games does not only have this key you have to enter while installing, but also require that you're connected to the 'net while playing, right? And the producers probably knows every key of that shipment. So it's easy as pie to null those keys.

Sandbox singleplayer is the future, mang.

I believe the first time I witnessed such a practise was with Half Life 2. I went to a third world nation shortly after the release of Half Life 2 and guess what I saw on the computers there? Why it was a pirated version of Half Life 2 managed and played by people who couldn't even speak English!

They don't have any control. They have an illusion of control. I guess nobody told them that telling directly to the customer at a reduced price due to the lack of retail markups would be better for business than treating your customers like criminals/cattle.

I'm o.k. with that, so long as the sandbox does not become an excuse for trite repetition. Sandbox, yeah, but also give me action-packed missions with scrpited events and all that. I like the freedom of sandbox games, but I also like those CoD "holy shit" moments. I just like them to be paced, and to do some other stuff inbetween.

Think GTA, but occasionally a mission takes you out of the city to a custom level that is built specifically around the mission's gameplay. They had a tiny bit of that in San Andreas, with the shootout on the plane, or the mission that took you back to Liberty City and I thought it was great.

I recently replayed Haunting Grounds (one of the most exhausting games I've ever played, but I digress) and I realised there isn't enough slasher games these days. If any.

Indeed. But there is still hope. I noticed that Haunting Grounds could easily be mistaken for a PS3 game. The sheer complexity of it, the amount of cutscenes, the lack of loading screens, the amount of items, the quality of graphics, the decent AI, the size of the levels, etc. I know it's unlikely but it'd be impressive to see what they could do with an engine like the PS3.

I've lost all hope in humanity, the fact they're going crazy for a game as shitty as Modern Warfare.
