Been a few months since I read me some good comics, @CallMeMaggot reminded me of this*
I'm looking for my next fix so I'd thought I'd ask the cool kids what they read.

*Read through the first 2, still reading.

Please do, those are good pics.
only one I haven't read is doctor strange and doctor doom: triumph & torment, I am ashamed to say I have never read anything with Doctor Strange as the main character.

I wish I could read more "modern" comics, since I only read newspaper comics from the 80's-90's. The only much "modern" comics I read (and are my favorites) would be Scott Pilgrim, True Story: Swear to God and Bone.

Comic strips, however, I would definetly go with Calvin and Hobbes, TinTin and Lio.

    Do you read Webcomics?

About the only comics I read now are the Walking dead, used to read The Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, and Garfield.

    Romantically Apocalyptic

Shit is beautifully done and is like a mix of post apocalypse with monty python brand silliness. The newer strips are a bit more coherent yet trippy, but even so, there's a ton of them. Highly suggest starting with the 1st anyways as there is some level of continuity.

If you're looking for good Dr. Strange stories, you should check this:

    http://www.steveenglehart.com/Comics/Dr Strange MP9-5.html

Englehart's run is one hell of a trip, if he was working with Steve Ditko they possibly would concept the weirdest series published by Marvel.

    As for my favorites:

    -Transmetropolitan
    -Swamp Thing (Alan Moore's phase)
    -Man-Thing (Steve Gerber's phase)
    -Howard the Duck
    -The Defenders (Steve Gerber's phase)
    -Hellboy
    -Dorohedoro
    -Battle Angel Alita
    -Franken Fran
    -Black Jack

I'm now with the Ennis run, liking it for now

Anyways, I think my fav issues are the first 4, the Mnemoth mini arc, and the juppies from hell/Waiting for the man issues...(talking from memory, I don't remember the titles very well), and I even have them on paper *gleam

The Fear Machine following arc left me more cold, I find wiccan themes a bit meh

I really like the Jaime Delano's run, even though he messes up the endings of his story arcs. The Nergal saga for instance felt too rushed in my opinion.

Anyway the best thing about the first issues of Delano's phase is the art of John Ridgway. His style really adds the creepiness and sense of unpleasantness that a Constatine story should have.

Waiting For the Man is one of my favorites, btw.

I kind of liked The Fear Machine. I liked how John didn't so much influence the story, as just kind of be there whilst it happened. It felt more genuine than most heroic sagas.

Doom 2099 first issue had one of my favorite covers too. The silver border is my favorite part.

Battle Angel Alita is not your typical "retarded boy/girl goes into a bizarre adventure where they befriend lots of socially inept, yet powerful people while they fight against shallow bad guys that are modeled after Arnold Schwarzenegger" manga.

Also I forgot to suggest this

I hope this is where they are going with the next Avengers movie, but it will more likely be the Cosmic Cube storyline.

I just finished reading The Fear Machine today.

While I loved the concept behind it, I felt the conclusion, again, was too rushed. It was like either Delano didn't know how to wrap up his stories despite having a good time to build interesting ideas in them, or he was pressured by the editors to finish the story arcs as quick as possible.

Also, was I the only one who wondered what the fuck happened with the villain of that arc, the one who was beheading people and offering their bodies to the pagan god? In one page he just finished killed the last person caged by him and then all of sudden he's not seen again.

That said, I agree with Gask that Constatine clicked really well as a mere spectator rather than a hero.

This wa s one of the last things that I enjoyed from Marvel because I mean what else do you want? is fucking Jason Voorhees aka Scourge of the underworld VS fucking Gorilla man! seriously this is what the Thunderbolts line should be about, bad people doing bad things for the greater good(!?) thats why Deadpool is so awesome and beloved, but sadly they went back to the old ways of redeemed villains playing the role of hero with nothing attractive to show anymore.
