I'm pretty sure you've all seen those "before and after" memes on DA. Most Some of them are actually damn impressive, and really showcases how the artist learned to fix up mistakes and refined their techniques. Keep in mind, I know how hard it is to get considerably better at drawing and breaking your limits, but the ones where there's literally no tangible difference between "then" and "now", really cracks me up. ..And there are those that actually look WORSE. Honestly, artists shouldn't be making these memes unless it's evident they've actually honed their skills enough to show that they LEARNED SHIT. Most of the time all they do is just render them in different styles but with the same shitty skill levels and try to pass that off as "improvement". Thoughts?
For me, the most annoying thing about this meme are all those faggots who decide to redraw a picture they made fairly recently, since in 99% of these cases you can't see any form of improvement whatsoever. Here are a few examples: Kinda defeats the whole purpose of this meme, doesn't it?
Some of those have actually some little improvement, but others only got worse or the style changed and that isn't how it work the meme. The Cirno one was redraw in the same year, SAME YEAR!
Exactly my point, most of the time the only real differences I see (exclusive to anime drawings) are glossier eyes or hair done in that shitty, nonsensical, metallic appearance. It seems like they are trying to "improve" in all the wrong places.
even this meme seems useful for watching how some of the DA users improve, theres some of them who still miss the point of this meme :
It's a bit heartbreaking because she can actually be pretty damn good when she's not drawing the anime/cartoon bullshit that's cluttering her gallery. http://beccadeprisco.deviantart.com/art/Sweetest-292634263
Okay, I got as many little gems as I could find. Some of these after pictures are hilariously bad. The dates on those last two. Pfft.
In most of these it's like they got lazier. At least in the older ones they looked like they were trying hard to make it look alright.
I hate those people who think they're oh-so-ironic~ when they take a simple picture or shape and draw it again, only intentionally worse or the same. Or shit like that circle thing. It wasn't funny the first 20 times someone else did it. I still think the "after" pictures should be done with the same media as the "before" pictures. You can't really say if they really improved when it's traditional vs. digital. So you don't suck at shading with coloured pencils anymore because you discovered the gradient tool? That's not how it works...
Attention faggots If you change the clothing, hair and pretty much EVERYTHING about it, IT'S NO LONGER THE SAME PICTURE
Yeah it looks like that, also it doesn't look any better either, it just looks like the artist started to develop a Robert Crumb fetish for fat ugly chicks. Oh yeah also it reminds me of Tom Preston's work for some reason. Some of these do look better though, most do which is kind of good from their originals even if they are still shit but I don't see the point in redrawing something less than a year later unless they took some sort of new course or just started to draw fairly recently and needed help.
I believe they are yes. Don't worry, it took me a second to get it too, when I first looked at it, I thought they were supposed to be folds of skin.
Bloody hell, the before picture composition had a good flow line in it. The after picture felt like someone had a bit of vertigo and shits all over the lines in favor of showing off, can't see clearly the hell going on. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
