    I really love abandoned buildings and abandoned places, for whatever reason. I made a thread on the earlier failed attempt at EDF 2.0, but since the forum was Michael Horowitz'd I thought I'd remake it. The previous thread has been reborn to include other places that I love that just happen to be abandoned.

    Now for a slight change of pace, we go to Detroit in Michigan.

    A dentist's office after the manufacturing plants shut down and lots of jobs and white people left the city. Most of the city is in a semi ruined state and the population of black people have taken over.

    Also in a town hit by the downfall of the factory is a cathedral in Indiana.

    EDIT: SEA FORTS! I FORGOT ABOUT THESE THINGS! LOOK AT THEM!

    I can see them. (added link for negi)

    Too late.

    Interesting, though I could do without all the weeb porn ads. I feel sad that a lot of these cool old Japanese buildings and villages may have been destroyed in the recent Earthquake/Tsunami.

    Venezuelan. Deserted places here don't remain so for long, because we have a masive housing problem. I'd just love to be the unscrupulous person. Has anyone ever went into a place like these? Post stories

    "Weston State Hospital in Weston, West Virginia, formerly known as the Trans-Allegheny Asylum for the Insane, was established in 1858. The hospital grounds covered 666 acres and contained 3 separate cemeteries. Upon completion of the nearby Willian R. Sharpe, Jr. Hopital in 1994, Weston State Hosptial was closed to public use."

    I lived near this place for about a year. Its supposed to be haunted and they give tours on the weekends. There was a fire before it shut down that many of the patients died in. A lot of the local kids would sneak in for who knows what reason. I guess a few went missing there or something but that was told to me by some crazy old guy so i don't really know if it was true. Pretty creepy place though.

    Edit: Fixed a few typos. Had to type out that quote cause I couldn't get it to paste right.

    There was an AWESOME abandoned state insane asylum near my house that they use to do all the old school shock treatments and lobotomies etc, but they turned it into condos now. Funny thing is though they left some of the old mental hospital building and built around it. We use to break in and go exploring all the time when I was younger.

    This is Byberry Mental Hospital, closed due to abuse and patient neglect, it became a haven for parties and people who wanted to have a good time in a torn up building. The building was eventually stripped of everything valueable and finally razed due to being an eyesore. Many people "made their bones" and braved the halls of this horrific asylum, so it is to the memory of a once great place that I mention this awesome hospital. RIP Byberry Mental Hospital. You were demolished too early. Now all that's left is a shell and a bunch of rubble. ;_;
    [IMG]
    This isn't even the best pic of Byberry's ruins. There is a video on YouTube where a historian goes through the place and talks about the history and other interesting stuff. Search for "Byberry's Last Days" and I'm sure you'll find it.

    "In the 1970s, the Bronx was plagued by a wave of arson. The burning of buildings was mostly in the South Bronx and in West Farms. The most common explanation of what occurred was that landlords decided to burn their low property-value buildings and take the insurance money as profit. After the fiery destruction of many buildings in the borough, the arsons slowed by the turn of the decade, but the after-effects were still felt into the 1990s."
