    It's more likely than u think....

    Might be fake news (don't cite the journal it was published in or any of the study's authors) but still.

    Octopus colors outta space :squid::squid::squid:

    Holy shit it's a real article:
    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0079610718300798?via=ihub

    Sooo tldr:
    Lotsa science-ese, but octopus/squids kinda backup our theory of panspermia, but they aren't the main purpose of this article.

    It's moreso a very long sperge on how viruses from other planets helped change our DNA structure.

    I dont see how its an "extraordinary claim" when a large number of scientists agree that life in general most likely came in microbe form from an object impacting the earth

    Idk I gotta look at the rest of the article. It was alot of very wordy bio talk by ppl almost as boring as me.

    I know that the running theory with panspermia was that microbes came from other planets and that was the source of life that we know today, didn't know totally about the virus bit mutating our DNA, and definitely didn't know about the octopuses.

    I'm assuming since creatures like octopi can survive in extreme temps n lower their metabolic needs (kinda like hibernation) they think they could have been frozen on a comet or something n fell off as they neared a planet closer to a sun. But still, from where?

    Agreed. :squid::squid: @Khanzer are u aliens?

    Yeah, they're smart. If satellite phones were dropped into the oceans, we'd only get calls from octopuses.

    Ok let's accept that. Let's accept that Octopi came from another world via comet, meteor shower etc.,

    The life organisms would have to survive how multiple decades if not centuries in the cold, dry, vacuum of space, survive the heat of reentry of Earth's atmosphere, and somehow fend off top predators in an active alien ecosystem. I'm not saying that's not possible, but that's one narrow window.

    I googled some of the theories in the paper. Not exact research but found some cool stuff.

    The paper talks about Tardigrades alot, they're a type of tiny lil critters that can survive up to 5 years in conditions similar to space.

    Tldr: the lil chubby fuckers can withstand the terror of space.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tardigrade
    However, idk if the predecessors to octopi could be that resilient, they're bigger critters so more cellular/metabolic demands, etc.

    Secondly like you said, they'd have to survive for how long b4 getting to earth. Paper said they prolly came from other earth like exoplanets in the milky way, closest one of those is 12 light years away. Soo... Yeah.

    The virus thing, I can see. The bacteria, I can see. Highly specialized multicellular organisms.... Idk.... Fell asleep reading the journal entry last nite will try to finish later.

    Donno. I'm guessing if this theory to have any sort of possibility of happening the particles would have to come from a close planet to Earth within our solar system. Mars or Venus. Anything further out would take too long. Anything closer would most likely fall into the Sun's gravitational pull.

    But, then again there's the re-entry heat.

    The Tardigrades can withstand that. And recent discoveries on meterorites that have been discovered suggest that bacteria can too.

    Extremophiles can handle that heat so stands to reason that might be how they got here.

    Also the moons around the gas Giants have been proven to be habitatable to life (Io might even have water) and it make sense for something from there getting knocked into (look at all the impact craters) and then stuff getting relaunched.

    fossils. No one knows if they survived reentry.

    Specifically, shuttles face intense temperatures of about 3000 degrees Fahrenheit (about 1649 degrees Celsius) [source: Hammond].

    Steel melts a little less than that .

    That is true, they only found their remains so idk. The extremophiles on Earth have only been documented up to 112° c, but that might be due to our inability to measure any life at higher temps.

    The temperatures we are talking about are not just elevated, 100 C; we're talking about 1700+ C. Come on now.

    No I do understand this is a lot hotter than anything experienced on Earth. Even the extremophiles found in the heat vents in the oceans don't get face those temps.

    However, if an asteroid or object from where ever were big enough, and the microbes or whatever deep enough inside of it, would the outside of it provide enough insulation?

    I'm shitballing. I'm a Buttwhisperer the most otherwordly experiences I've had involved someone screaming about aliens while they throw poop so I'm definitely not a specialist here.

    Honestly, I have no idea why we haven't hooked intelligent non-human animals to long term simulations. Obviously they don't have the proper digits to interact with our environment on our level but why don't we create artificial environments for them and do something as simple as give them a controller and teach them how to use it? I seems like the most coherent way to truly test another animal's intelligence to me. None of this Pavlov's dogs shit but truly test the abstract thinking limit of lesser creatures.
