buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion....
it's a way to live not to worship.

strictly speaking,Buddhism is not a religion because they don't worship a deity.

Buddhism is a neat religion and has contributed so much to Japanese and other Asian cultures.

Taoism separates into two different categories.
Philosophical taoism, that mostly follows what is written in the "tao sing se" by "lao tse ta".which can be interpreted as a non religious way of life, considering it only mentions super natural things once and in an off hand way.
and religious taoism, that interprets "the tao" (translation: the way.) as an actual supernatural phenomenon that controls the world.and draws inspiration from other taoist text.also they worship several spirits and demi gods from old Chinese traditions.

Yeah, I was into Taoism for a while and stumbled onto the religious portion. It seemed like a haphazard attempt to qualify cultural superstitions. Sure it reflected the philosophy somewhat, but a lot of it just seemed...juvenile . Like they actually expected immortality from arbitrary dietary practices.
