A former student at a Christian college in California opened fire at the school Monday, killing six people and wounding three A former student at a Christian college in California opened fire at the school Monday, killing seven people and wounding at least three. A suspect - said to be a former nursing student at the private school - was nabbed at a shopping center three miles away soon about an hour after the 10:30 a.m. shooting, said Johnna Watson, police spokeswoman in Oakland, Ca. “We do believe we have detained an individual responsible for the shooting at the college,” Watson said. KTVU-TV said the gunman walked into a Safeway and told someone he had just shot several people. Helicopter footage of the Oikos University campus showed four bodies lying under tarps on a grassy median outside the school. The other bodies were taken to a hospital with the wounded, according to TV reports. Pastor Jong Kim, who founded the school 10 years ago, told the Oakland Tribune that the shooter was a former nursing student at Oikos but didn’t know if he had been expelled or dropped out. He said he heard about 30 gunshots and cowered in his office. The San Fransciso Chronicle quoted a witness who saw a wounded woman fleeing the college crying, "I've been shot, I've been shot." Angie Johnson, 52, said the woman, who was hit in the arm, told her the shooter abruptly shot one person at point-blank range in the chest before spraying the room with bullets. The woman said “he looked crazy all the time” but students “never knew how far he would go." The Oakland Police SWAT searched the sprawling school building, looking for more dead or wounded - and possibly more gunmen. “We want to make sure we don’t have any additional suspects,” Watson said. Oikos University is a private medical and religious college with a largely Korean student body.
