My laptop's backlight died. Using a flashlight became tiresome. I bought an external monitor to see what was on my computer, but the damn thing didn't recognize that the monitor was connected to it. Currently I am using a small notebook which is connected to the display and my own computer over an internet connection. Any advice?

Non-functional. You mean fn+f8 combination. I can't find the right drivers for it. I have windows 7.

Your monitor shouldn't need any drivers in order to be connected. What kind of monitor is this anyway?

A cheap $20 one. I wish I had the specs. here but I am using a computer at college. It was an LCD, with an external power supply (aquosvision?) or something like that
